For project 3 Becca Mauck and I decided to combine ideas and create debates on some of the most controversial topics today. We debated on Legalizing marijuana, Abortion, and teachers carrying weapons. We believed that these three topics were very relevant in our lives today and wanted to give other teens our age a way to speak out on their beliefs. Becca and I both took a side on each argument to research and become very familiar with so we would have a firm foundation on our arguments when it came down to the debate. These topics are something people our age dont really get to talk about but still have an opinion on, so holding a whole class debate was a good way to get everyone involved and allow everyone to voice their own opinion.
The Process
English- For the English portion of this project Becca and I held a class debate on the three controversial topics we choose; teachers carrying weapons, legalizing marijuiana, and wether or not abortion should be legal. We began this project with days of research. Research played one the largest roles on this project. We then created a sign up paper for any student in our classes that wanted to participate in our debate. The turn out was great, we ended up getting about 17 students to participate. To host the debate, we had the classroom divided into 2 sections and the students sit on the side which they wanted to debate. Everyone was very engaged and active throughout the debate. We also recorded and edited the debates we did ourselves.
Art- For the art Part of this project Becca and I both came up with propaganda posters to support the side of the topic we were arguing. We made two posters per topic. We started by researching how to make a propaganda poster and the significance of them. We used a software called pages to create our posters.
